Open Source Marvel Introduces Mistral 7B: Mistral AI released Mistral 7B, the most powerful language model for its size to date. Mistral 7B is a 7-billion-parameter language model. Designed with precision, Mistral 7B combines efficiency and high performance, catering to the needs of real-world applications. Notably, its efficiency enhancements make it well-suited for time-sensitive, real-time scenarios requiring swift responses. Upon its launch, Mistral 7B demonstrated superior performance compared to the leading open-source 13B model, Llama 2, across all evaluated benchmarks.

Questionable Gemini AI Demo Sparks Concerns:  Doubts surrounding the credibility of the Gemini AI demo have sparked a growing  concern. Google is facing criticism for a demonstrative video of Gemini, which it now says was not conducted in real time. The criticism comes as déjà vu for the company’s demonstrations earlier this year, which employees called “rushed, botched.”

Humanoid Robots are Getting to Work: In 2015, humanoid robots showcased advanced mobility and manipulation skills at the DARPA Robotics Challenge, inspired by the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Companies like Agility Robotics plan to deploy commercial humanoid robots, such as Digit, in 2024 for logistics tasks, initially focusing on tote-handling jobs in warehouses. Standing 1.75 meters tall, weighing 65 kilograms, and capable of lifting 16 kg, Digit is being tested by Amazon for tasks like empty tote recycling in older warehouses. Challenges persist in deploying commercial humanoid robots, including complex actuators, battery limitations, manufacturability, and the development of efficient and safe deployment software.

New York Times Files Lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft Demanding Destruction of ChatGPT: The New York Times files a lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft, claiming copyright infringement for using its articles to train AI models (large language models, data scraping) without permission or compensation, challenging the legal boundaries of AI training data usage. The New York Times is seeking billions in damages and the destruction of chatbot models that use the Times’ copyrighted material.
