Meta Platforms will acquire Manus, a Singapore-based developer of general-purpose AI agents, in a deal valued at over $2 billion. The acquisition, struck in just ten days, represents Meta’s third-largest deal ever, following WhatsApp and its 2025 investment in Scale AI.
Unlike traditional chatbots that merely answer questions, Manus is a fully autonomous agent designed to act as a “digital employee”. It can independently execute end-to-end workflows without constant human supervision.
The move is a major win for Meta’s new Chief AI Officer, Alexandr Wang, who welcomed the team as part of CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s push for “personal superintelligence”. By acquiring Manus, Meta effectively buys a ready-made “execution layer” to compete with the agentic offerings of Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI.
