IBM and USTA Unveil AI-Powered Fan Features for the 2026 US Open

IBM, the Аmerican technology company and the United States Tennis Association (USTA) have announced a suite of new and enhanced AI-powered features for USOpen.org and the US Open app, timed for the 2026 tournament running August 23 through September 13.

The announcement highlights IBM’s expanding role in global sports technology, following similar high-profile partnerships such as its artificial intelligence initiatives for the FIFA World Cup

The updates introduce a personalized Live Updates homepage that lets fans prioritize specific players, matches, and stories. Fans can also view a new Serve Quality metric available across all 254 singles matches. Powered by limb-tracking technology from IBM Bob and managed via IBM Confluent, the tool tracks 21 body and racquet data points 50 times per second to score serve mechanics, accuracy, consistency, and ball toss in near real-time.

Additionally, the tournament’s Likelihood to Win feature now includes Key Moments to explain momentum shifts during matches. The interactive Match Chat, powered by IBM’s watsonx Orchestrate platform, has also been expanded to deliver conversational answers alongside relevant photos and video.

According to a global survey commissioned by IBM and conducted by Morning Consult, 91% of surveyed tennis fans use sports apps during events, with 64% expressing trust in AI-powered sports content. IBM and the USTA have partnered on the tournament’s digital engagement features since 1992.
