xAI Joins SpaceX to Build the Future of Orbital Computing

SpaceX has officially announced the acquisition of xAI to establish a vertically integrated innovation platform spanning aerospace and artificial intelligence. This merger consolidates the development of rockets, the Starlink satellite network, and the Grok AI model alongside the assets of the social media platform X. The combined entity is reportedly valued at approximately $1.25 trillion (approximately €1.16 trillion), with xAI shareholders receiving SpaceX equity as part of the transaction.

According to their statement, the strategic rationale for the merger focuses on the development of orbital data centers to address the energy and cooling constraints faced by terrestrial computing facilities. SpaceX intends to deploy constellations of specialized satellites to harness near-constant solar power for AI training and inference. This initiative aims to utilize the Starship launch system to establish a scalable, space-based infrastructure that supports the company’s long-term goals for space exploration and global digital connectivity.
