University of Wolverhampton Launches Digital Futures Lab to Transform Humanities

The University of Wolverhampton, United Kingdom, has announced the opening of the Digital Futures Lab, a pioneering experimental space dedicated to exploring the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), and the humanities. Set to officially launch on February 7, 2026, at the George Wallis Building, the hub serves as a collaborative “third space” where academics, students, and businesses can investigate how digital transformation is reshaping culture, language, and literature.

This initiative moves beyond traditional science-led AI research to focus on “creative-critical” work. The lab will utilize computational methods to analyze literary influence, authorship, and the impact of digital inequality on the human mind.

The lab’s multidisciplinary approach combines expertise from English Literature, Psychology, and Data Science to address real-world social challenges. By offering incubator sessions and PhD opportunities, the University is positioning itself at the forefront of the “neurological turn” in the arts.
