PayPal Acquires Cymbio to Scale AI-Driven Agentic Commerce

PayPal Holdings, Inc. has reached an agreement to acquire Cymbio, a leading multi-channel orchestration platform, in a move to solidify its leadership in the emerging field of “agentic commerce.” This acquisition follows a successful partnership between the two companies and aims to expand PayPal’s suite of AI-powered solutions that allow merchants to sell directly within top AI platforms.

Cymbio’s technology will primarily power PayPal’s Store Sync service, which integrates merchant product catalogs into AI-driven interfaces like Microsoft Copilot and Perplexity. This system enables consumers to discover and purchase products through natural-language interactions while allowing merchants to remain the merchant of record and maintain direct customer relationships.

“Acquiring Cymbio’s technology and team will enhance our agentic commerce capabilities and accelerate the expansion to more of our merchants,” says Michelle Gill, Executive Vice President at PayPal in the official statement.

While services are currently live on Copilot and Perplexity, PayPal plans to extend these capabilities to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini app in the near future.
