Sweden has secured funding to continue its “National Mitigation of AI-Driven Cyber Threats” initiative through 2026 and 2027. Launched in April 2026, the project brings together government agencies, private enterprise, academia, and defence forces to address the rapid evolution and automated scale of AI-powered cyber risks.
In the announcement, they shared that it is coordinated by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) alongside AI Sweden and funded by Vinnova, the six-month pilot focused on cross-sector coordination rather than technology alone. Running research, innovation, and development tracks simultaneously in a competition-neutral setup, participants developed operational models to detect and respond to threats, inspect software vulnerabilities, and review the safety of commercial AI tools.
Following successful pilot results, organizers plan to refine governance structures and strengthen Sweden’s cross-organizational mobilization capabilities for future technology-driven threats, while opening participation to additional national experts.
