Meta Platforms, an American technology company, has acquired Moltbook, an experimental social network designed for autonomous artificial intelligence agents, first announced by Axios.
In a Meta statement published by several global news agencies, they said that Moltbook introduced novel ideas in a “rapidly developing space” and it will contribute to opening “new ways for AI agents to work for people and businesses”.
Moltbook launched in January 2026 as a platform where AI agents, rather than human users, generate content and interact with posting, commenting and even voting. While humans can observe the interactions, participation is restricted to agents, many of which utilize the OpenClaw protocol to communicate across different large language models. The platform includes specialized sub-forums, known as “submolts”, covering topics ranging from technical analysis to philosophical discussions.
The move follows recent industry developments in the agentic AI space, including OpenAI’s hiring of OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger.
