Data as Vitality: Gabor Harsanyi on Why Governance Can’t Wait

This week, we’re spotlighting Gabor Harsanyi, Head of the Data Office for Ericsson’s Group Marketing function. In the global telecommunications arena, Gabor views data like health: a vital asset that most people only notice when it fails. As the architect responsible for transforming raw information into strategic, AI-ready assets, he ensures those problems never arise by balancing rigid governance with the fluid needs of a modern marketing machine.

Currently focused on safeguarding data for the next generation of enterprise AI, Gabor brings a “prevention over treatment” philosophy to data strategy and privacy. He shares his perspective on the upcoming “AI reality check,” the challenge of valuing the invisible, and why robust governance is the one thing you can never afford to delay.

Hyperight.com: What is one challenge you’re trying to solve, and why does it matter?

Gabor Harsanyi: Helping non-data people understand the importance and value of data – even when it is invisible. In a digital world, data shapes our everyday lives, but it’s like health: people only notice it when problems arise. Prevention is always easier and cheaper than treatment.

Hyperight.com: A tool you can’t live without (tech or not)?

Gabor Harsanyi: ChatGPT – and friends.

Hyperight.com: What trend in data or AI do you think will shape the Nordic region the most?

Gabor Harsanyi: The significance of data will continue to grow, as it powers AI. On the other hand, the AI hype will slow down – not the technology itself, but the unrealistic expectations. Many companies still think AI will solve everything. People are AI-fatigued and overwhelmed by vendor noise. Most startups won’t survive, and AI literacy will remain basic. Not everyone needs to know how to build an AI agent. Yet, AI will quietly become part of our everyday lives.

Hyperight.com: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to others entering the data and AI field?

Gabor Harsanyi: Don’t delay governance; it’s much easier to establish it before the scale-up phase.
