Тhe Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) has inaugurated the Quantum Nanofabrication Area within the Clean Room at the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM).
Funded with over €6 million through Spain’s PERTE Chip program and the Complementary Plan for Quantum Communications (backed by EU Next Generation EU funds), the upgraded site is now the country’s most advanced research facility for fabricating nanoscale devices and quantum chips.
Key additions include Spain’s most advanced electron-beam lithography system (the EBPG 5150Plus) alongside specialized SEM/EBL microscopes and atomic force microscopy (AFM) systems for nanoscale device inspection.
The facility will bridge basic research and industrial applications across quantum computing, communications, healthcare, energy, and security, supporting the CSIC’s broader national quantum strategy and the newly established Quantum Advanced Research Center (QuARC-CSIC).
This launch represents a major step in bolstering Spanish and European technological sovereignty by providing key infrastructure to connect basic research and the industrial production of advanced semiconductors and quantum devices.
