Sweden Ranks as a European Leader in Corporate AI Adoption

Sweden has emerged as one of the top nations in the European Union for artificial intelligence adoption, securing a joint third-place ranking with Belgium. According to new statistics from Statistics Sweden, 35 percent of Swedish companies utilized some form of AI technology in 2025, significantly outpacing the EU-27 average of 20 percent. Within the broader Nordic region, corporate AI usage spans from 42 percent in Denmark to just under 29 percent in Norway, placing Sweden among the top five European countries for AI use, data analysis, cloud services, and in-house AI development.

The adoption of artificial intelligence within Sweden is largely driven by large-scale enterprises with 250 or more employees, which possess the resources and capital necessary to implement the technology. This corporate adoption is also heavily concentrated by geography and demographics. AI implementation is most widespread in the Stockholm region and Western Sweden, driven by a high concentration of skills and capital in these metropolitan hubs, while northern central Sweden and central Norrland report the lowest usage rates.

Demographic data reveals a nuanced picture of how gender distribution correlates with AI use in the workplace. While individual men use generative AI tools at work more frequently than individual women, and male-dominated companies make up a higher total volume of AI users, female-dominated firms actually use AI at a higher rate than male-dominated ones. Ultimately, the statistics show that artificial intelligence is most commonly and effectively adopted by companies that maintain an equal gender balance among their staff.
