Sweden-US Alliance to Boost Cutting-Edge Tech and Competitiveness

Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio signed a bilateral technology cooperation agreement, in a move to boost global innovation and competitiveness.

Officially known as the “Technology Prosperity Deal”, the memorandum of understanding establishes a political declaration of intent to deepen ties across multiple strategic sectors, including artificial intelligence, quantum technology, biomedicine, advanced manufacturing, and defense innovation.

“Sweden is ranked as one of the most innovative and creative countries in the world, a position achieved thanks to the hard work of many people. We want to make sure that their efforts are rewarded and create the best possible conditions for Swedish companies to continue leading the way in the development of future technologies”, says Ms Malmer Stenergard in the statement released by the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Minister Malmer Stenergard also emphasized that the deal safeguards commercial interests and reinforces Sweden’s standing as a world leader in innovation, marking a significant milestone in the long-standing relationship between Sweden and the United States.

While the agreement carries no legal or financial commitments, it aims to leverage the complementary strengths of both nations to expand research exchanges, enhance market penetration, and provide closer collaboration with the business sector.
