Meta Secures 6.6 Gigawatts of Nuclear Power to Fuel “Prometheus” AI Supercluster

Meta has finalized a massive series of nuclear energy agreements with TerraPower, Oklo, and Vistra to power its ambitious Prometheus AI data center project. This deal, announced today, will secure up to 6.6 gigawatts of clean electricity by 2035, and with that can position the social media giant as one of the largest corporate purchasers of nuclear power in history. The primary beneficiary of this energy surge is Meta’s “Prometheus” supercluster, a one-gigawatt facility currently under construction in New Albany, Ohio, which is expected to go online later this year to train the next generation of Llama AI models.

The strategy combines immediate grid support with long-term innovation. Meta will purchase over 2.1 gigawatts from Vistra’s existing nuclear plants in Ohio and Pennsylvania, while providing critical upfront funding for next-generation technology. This includes backing TerraPower’s development of Natrium reactors and a 1.2-gigawatt power campus from Oklo in Pike County, Ohio. By integrating both established and small modular reactor technologies, Meta aims to use nuclear energy to speed up AI development.
