The ISACA 2026 Global Pulse Poll, which surveyed 2,963 professionals in digital trust fields, reveals a technology landscape caught between rapid AI adoption and a widening “preparedness gap.” As leaders enter 2026, the focus has shifted from mere innovation to survival in a “perfect storm” of threats and regulations.
While 62% of leaders name AI their top priority, only 13% feel “very prepared” to manage its risks. This anxiety is driven by AI-powered social engineering, now the number one threat for 63% of respondents, overtaking traditional ransomware.
Regulatory complexity is a top concern for 32% of leaders, but technical readiness is lagging. Currently, fewer than one in five respondents feel prepared for major directives such as NIS2 (Network and Information Security) at 18%, DORA (Digital Operational Resilience Act) at 18%, and the EU AI Act at a mere 11%.
Despite plans to hire for digital trust roles by 62% of firms, nearly half (44%) cannot find qualified candidates. With only 18% reporting a strong talent pipeline, upskilling the current workforce (39%) is no longer optional-it is a strategic necessity for 2026.
According to the report, technology leaders are entering a “perfect storm” in 2026, where they are caught in a high-stakes race between a massive AI readiness gap, mounting regulatory pressure, and a critical shortage of skilled digital trust professionals.
