NordForsk, an organization under the Nordic Council of Ministers, has awarded approximately NOK 300 million (about €26 million) in joint funding to a major research initiative focused on the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across the Nordic and Baltic regions.
The initiative supports 17 new research projects selected from over 200 proposals. These projects involve 163 researchers from 47 institutions across nine countries, aiming to generate knowledge that mitigates risks and maximizes the ethical potentials of AI.
Research will focus on addressing shared societal challenges in areas such as AI governance, healthcare and aging, the green transition of energy systems, and the impact of generative AI on education and the workplace. The funding is designed to build cross-border capacity and competence in applying AI in a socially sustainable way.
