This week we spotlight Marte Kjelvik, an Advisor specializing in data management for AI and an active driving force in the DAMA community.
For Marte, data governance isn’t just about technology, it’s about people and solving real-world problems. She spends her days helping organizations build reliable data foundations, shape standards, and operationalize trustworthy AI. Whether guiding teams through frameworks or fostering community, she proves that doing data right is essential for lasting value. Her favorite reminder for navigating complex data journeys? Sometimes, going slow is the fastest way to achieve your goals.
Hyperight.com: What’s the best way to describe your job to someone outside tech?

Marte Kjelvik: I help make sure AI is fit for solving real problems, not just technical ones. I provide practical guidance through the KI Norge guidance portal (Gjør dataene KI-klare | KI Norge) and by meeting people where they are, through workshops, conferences and other communities.
Hyperight.com: What originally sparked your interest in AI/data, and what keeps you inspired today?
Marte Kjelvik: I was drawn to AI because of its potential to solve meaningful problems at scale. What inspires me today is that AI has made data governance relevant, and even a little sexy again. Organizations are realizing that trustworthy AI starts with trustworthy data and that good data governance is the foundation for better decisions, better AI, and lasting value.
Hyperight.com: What is one challenge you’re trying to solve, and why does it matter?
Marte Kjelvik: One challenge I’m passionate about is helping organizations operationalize trustworthy AI. That requires more than technology. It requires common frameworks through strategies, regulations, standards, methodologies, tools and governance practices. When these are in place, AI can scale responsibly and create lasting value.
Hyperight.com: A tool you can’t live without (tech or not)?
Marte Kjelvik: My smartphone. It’s my communication hub, notebook, camera, navigation system, authenticator, and my way of staying connected with colleagues, friends, and family. I try to own it rather than let it own me, but I’m not always successful.
Hyperight.com: What trend in data or AI do you think will shape the Nordic region the most?
Marte Kjelvik: Data is sexy again. AI has reminded us that no model is better than the data behind it. I believe the biggest trend in the Nordics will be investing in trusted data, strong governance and common standards to make AI work in practice.
Hyperight.com: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to others entering the data and AI field?
Marte Kjelvik: Stay curious and focus on solving real problems, not just using the latest technology. Learn the fundamentals, collaborate across disciplines and remember that communication and critical thinking are just as important as technical skills. My favorite motto: Sometimes, going slow is the fastest way to achieve your integration goals.
