Nanto City in Toyama Prefecture and private developer GigaStream Toyama concluded an agreement on December 19, 2025, to develop the Nanto Campus, which will become Japan’s largest data center cluster with a total capacity of 3.1 gigawatts. This project establishes Japan’s third major data center hub to provide disaster-resilient infrastructure outside of Tokyo and Osaka. The first phase covers 13.1 hectares and supports 400 megawatts of power, with operations scheduled to begin by the end of 2028.
The site is designed to support AI factory deployments, hyperscale cloud services, and major enterprise workloads while leveraging Toyama’s low earthquake risk and abundant, lower-cost power.
