Red Hat, an American software company and Telenor, a Norwegian telecommunications company have announced a strategic collaboration to power the Telenor AI Factory, a sovereign infrastructure solution designed for production-grade artificial intelligence. The initiative combines Red Hat’s open hybrid cloud and AI technologies with high-performance NVIDIA hardware to allow enterprises to develop, train, and deploy AI models while maintaining strict control and sovereignty over their data.
The solution is built on Red Hat OpenShift AI as its core environment and is supported by Red Hat OpenShift Platform Plus and Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform. This architecture addresses increasing demands for digital residency by enabling organizations to process sensitive data within regional boundaries. Additionally, Red Hat Consulting has worked with Telenor to design a multi-tenant data architecture that supports governance and security for diverse customers across the public and private sectors.
The Telenor AI Factory operates at two sites in Norway using renewable energy and is designed to eliminate vendor lock-in by providing a vendor-neutral technology layer. The platform allows IT teams to manage traditional enterprise applications alongside AI workloads, such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and agentic workflows, within a single environment.
