Samsung and NVIDIA have announced the integration of Samsung’s virtualized Radio Access Network (vRAN) software with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing platform. Showcased at MWC 2026, the collaboration was tested at Samsung’s R&D center using NVIDIA Grace CPUs and L4 GPUs to assess the system’s ability to manage high-traffic environments and its impact on performance and operational costs for mobile operators.
A key component of this partnership is an AI-based beamformer designed to direct signals toward user devices to improve downlink performance, network capacity, and spectral efficiency. Additionally, the companies are working on a unified chipset that combines CPU and GPU functions to reduce hardware complexity. These developments reflect a move toward cloud-native, autonomous infrastructure and the adoption of AI-RAN for 5G and 6G networks.
