A new report from management consultancy FP (Four Principles) highlights a growing divide between artificial intelligence insights and actual business outcomes. Led by Rauf Elgamati, Principal of Digital Transformation, and a team of operational strategy researchers at FP Digital, the study indicates that despite widespread access to advanced AI models, large enterprises and government bodies continue to struggle with persistent operational backlogs and slow decision cycles.
The authors argue that digital transformation has entered a new era centered on “agentic AI”: systems capable of sensing conditions, making decisions, and executing actions directly across enterprise platforms without waiting for human initiation. While past transformations focused primarily on analytics dashboards, the report notes that true operational velocity requires giving AI the digital equivalent of hands to perform tasks directly in systems such as ERP and CRM platforms.
The report identifies several active use cases across software engineering, procurement, healthcare, and research, noting that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region is positioned to lead adoption due to sovereign investment programs like Saudi Arabia’s National Strategy for Data and AI and the UAE’s AI Strategy 2031. However, the researchers emphasize that ultimate success relies on governance rather than model capability alone. To safely manage autonomous systems, FP outlines an eight-part governance framework featuring specialized “audit agents” – AI tools built to continuously monitor other agents for drift, bias, and compliance in real time.
