This week, we’re spotlighting Anders Dræge, Team Lead for AI and Machine Learning at Frende Forsikring, a leading Norwegian insurer with deep roots in independent savings banks. Anders and his team act as a bridge between high-level technology and business impact, focusing on ensuring that advanced AI models serve a clear purpose: making insurance operations faster, smarter, and more efficient.
Working at the forefront of hyperautomation, Anders specializes in integrating advanced AI models with robust rule-based systems to redefine industry standards. From claims handling to customer service, he collaborates across departments to uncover opportunities for smarter, faster operations – all while navigating the critical requirements of GDPR and the EU AI Act. In this interview, he shares his journey from “automation enthusiast” to leading the next wave of Agentic AI in the Nordics.
Hyperight.com: What’s the best way to describe your job to someone outside tech?
Anders Dræge: My job has two main roles: AI developer and team lead. As a team lead, I represent our AI team internally and externally, help shape the company’s AI strategy and policy, and ensure compliance with regulations. As an AI developer, I create solutions that make everyday work easier and more efficient, often by combining AI with automation. In short, I help make insurance smarter, faster, and compliant.
Hyperight.com: What originally sparked your interest in AI/data, and what keeps you inspired today?
Anders Dræge: I’ve always been fascinated by new technology and the possibilities it creates. Honestly, part of the motivation came from being a little lazy – I love finding ways to save time and reduce manual work. What inspires me today is that, even though we’ve achieved a lot, there’s still so much more to do. New tools keep opening up opportunities we couldn’t imagine a few years ago. Right now, we’re exploring AI agents, which looks incredibly promising.
Hyperight.com: What is one challenge you’re trying to solve, and why does it matter?
Anders Dræge: We’re working on automating claims handling for simpler cases and high-volume tasks. For complex cases, we rely on skilled experts, but automation for straightforward ones is key. Frende is growing fast, and by scaling through automation instead of increasing staffing, we can stay cost-efficient and deliver faster services-benefiting both the company and our customers.
Hyperight.com: A tool you can’t live without (tech or not)?
Anders Dræge: A tool I’ve become really fond of is Copilot’s chat. I use it as a coding assistant, text composer, and sparring partner for ideas. It boosts productivity, accelerates learning and improves quality. When I hit a roadblock, I ask questions and get instant explanations instead of spending hours searching.
Hyperight.com: What trend in data or AI do you think will shape the Nordic region the most?
Anders Dræge: AI-driven decision-making and automation will dominate. Companies will increasingly use AI to improve efficiency and customer experience, while automation will handle standardized tasks. Agentic AI – autonomous systems that combine decision-making with execution – will accelerate this trend, enabling hyperautomation and intelligent workflows.
Hyperight.com: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to others entering the data and AI field?
Anders Dræge: Stay curious and creative. Keep learning and experimenting – it’s how you grow. At the same time, stay focused on creating real value. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of new technology, but the ultimate goal is solving problems and delivering impact.
