Alphabet Acquires Intersect for $4.75B to Tackle AI Power Crunch

Alphabet, Google’s parent company, announced an agreement to acquire Intersect, a specialist in data center and clean energy infrastructure, for $4.75 billion in cash.

This deal is a strategic strike against the “power bottleneck” currently stalling the AI industry. As Large Language Models (LLMs) require massive amounts of electricity, tech giants are no longer just buying chips. Instead, they are buying the power plants themselves.

The acquisition is designed to bypass the years-long waiting lists for connecting new data centers to the traditional electrical grid. By bringing Intersect in-house, Alphabet can now build co-located energy parks, where data centers sit directly beside dedicated solar, wind, and battery storage facilities.
